Ship Arrivals at the Port of Quebec, 1819

The following arrivals were extracted from the Montreal Gazette 1819. The Montreal Gazette was a weekly publication.
note: if ships' rigging or name of Master unpublished, it is indicated by -- (The newspapers were filmed within their binding, making one side of some entries, unreadable, or only partly legible. This can lead to errors in the interpretation of the entry or missed entries.) Be aware that there may be two or more ships of the same name, from the same, or different ports, during the same year. A few ships also made two trips in 1819

HALIFAX, September 20

We are very much alarmed at the progress of the fe[ver] at Bermuda. Already have the principal medical officer and chief engineer fallen victims, with other officers and about 100 out of a garrison of 400 or 500 soldiers. [The] inhabitants have suffered in a great proportion, and dismay and confusion there.

October 27th 1819
Another public misfortune has befallen Canada in the recent death of John Ogilvy, Esquire, his Majesty's Commissioner for ascertaining the boundary line between this country and the United States. This gentleman, while prosecuting the survey of Lake Erie, was attacked by a species of fever, which had prevailed in the adjoining country among the inhabitants as well as among the surveying party. He remained several days ill in his health exposed to the heat of the sun by day, and the cold and dews of the night, and could not be persuaded by the most ernest entreaties of his attendants to repair to Amhertsburgh, where he might have regular medical assistance, until in the last extremity, when the disease was too far advanced, and his constitution was unable loger to resist its fatal progress. He died at the above place after sixteen days illness, on the 28th September, aged about 55, and his remains were interred on the 30th with military honours.
Colonel Ogilvy, from his extensive information and local knowledge, added to unwearied perseverence and assiduity, was eminently qualified for the important charge with which he had been honoured, and we fear it will not be easy to replace him with a person equally capable and equally disposed to serve the country.
